If you are looking for a perfect, unobstructed view of the sun setting over the Pacific Ocean, look no further than Maui Kai Condos. Located on Kaanapali Beach slightly north of Lahaina, the property is set in an ideal location.
This was our view every night, sitting on the lanai, watching the sun go down. We stayed at the condo for five nights. The condo is located close enough to Lahaina to be convenient, and far enough away that your amazing view will not be ruined by cruise ships.
During the day you can see both Molokai and Lanai from the lanai. Molokai is in the picture above, it is almost always covered in clouds. We did have a few moments when all the clouds rolled away and we could see the entire island.
The building has multiple condos available to rent, ranging from studios to two bedroom units. We stayed in a center unit, 605. The condo was very clean, well supplied, and had a comfy bed.
You could tell that the owners were upgrading things over time. The carpet really needed to be replaced and the bathroom was clean, but could definitely be updated. All of the units are very different and can be viewed at the following website.
The lanai was our favorite part. We spent most of our time in the condo out here.
On our final day, while I was packing, I happened to look up and out to the lanai, and this is what greeted my gaze. A double rainbow, so huge that it would not fit in the frame of my wide lens camera. My husband used the panorama function on his phone and we still couldn’t get it all in. We stayed on the lanai, soaking in the beauty of the moment, until the rainbows faded away. What a send off! Life doesn’t get any more perfect than that!
The pluses and minuses of staying here, in my opinion, are as follows.
Pluses
- The view!!!! Unbeatable!!!
- The location is excellent.
- This unit has air conditioning, not sure about the others. There was always a lovely breeze when the windows and patio doors were open, but we did use the air on multiple occasions.
- The owners provided plenty of towels for the entire stay, beach chairs, snorkeling gear, a beach umbrella, sunscreen, and kitchen supplies.
- Prompt service, they responded very quickly to all of our questions and concerns.
- It is not located on a swimming beach. I considered this a plus because all I wanted to see was the ocean, not a beach full of people.
Minuses
- The bed is located far away from the lanai, so it is hard to hear the ocean when you are falling asleep. Some people might consider that a plus, I did not.
- There is a large hotel located next door that plays loud music on weekend nights. We had to shut the windows because it was so loud. With the windows shut and the air on, we could no longer hear it; however, we would have preferred to sleep with the windows open.
- Carpet needs to be replaced (this may have all ready been done).
- Bathroom could use updating (this may have all ready been done).
Overall, I would go back in a heart beat! I preferred a unit in the middle because the end units had a view of the ocean, but also a view of the hotels located to the side. I wanted all ocean, all the time. Air conditioning did end up being important, all condos in the area do not have air, so make sure to confirm where you stay has it. The unit we stayed in is not always available, as the owners live here part time. I highly recommend checking out Maui Kai’s website. You can also find some of their units on VRBO, but it is cheaper to book direct.
For my next several posts, I will be moving on to our trip to Sedona. As always, wishing you happy travels and fantastic adventures in this thing called life.
