What did I like about the Belmond Monasterio Hotel? Quite frankly, everything. From a great location to beautiful rooms and grounds to fabulous food, this hotel has it all.
Upon entering the hotel, which was a former monastery, the lounge and bar are to the right. We relaxed here while our guide took care of the check in process.
We were led through two open courtyards on the way to our room. The entire hotel has a quiet, meditative atmosphere.
We were in a King Deluxe room. Although each room is unique, all of the rooms are very spacious. There is artwork in each room, and all through the hotel, which were originally owned by the monastery. The hotel has a total of 122 rooms and suites available. The bed and pillows were incredible. I took pictures of the tags on the pillows so I could buy some when we got home. I found out they cost over $300 per pillow, up to $800. No wonder it felt like I was laying my head on a cloud!
The bathrooms were spacious and luxurious. The tub was a welcome sight after spending the day climbing Huayna Picchu.
Although the monastery was built in the 16th century, you would never know it from the bathrooms. Air conditioning is available in each room upon request (we did not need it). Many of the rooms also allow for extra oxygen to be pumped into the room, also available upon request. The altitude of Cusco is 11,152 feet, so it is a nice option if you are concerned about altitude sickness.
The view from our room wasn’t amazing, there are some suites that open up to a small courtyard if that is important to you. We did not spend much time in our rooms. We were too busy exploring the city.
The breakfast buffet is included in the price of the hotel. It was fantastic and continually being refreshed.
The freshly squeezed juices were delicious.
It is all you can eat, and we all went back for seconds, some of us for thirds.
If there is not enough to choose from here, they offer made to order eggs, as well.
I am not admitting to how many of those doughnuts I ate. We will just say it’s a good thing we had somewhere to be and they were too messy for me to bring any along.
You have the option between indoor and outdoor dining. We choose to eat in the courtyard with the rose gardens. The hotel does have two restaurants for lunch and dinner; however, we choose to eat in the historic district.
On top of the incredible service, there were gorgeous floral displays throughout the common areas.
The location of the hotel is excellent. It is a short walk to the Plaza de Armas and is only 15 minutes from the airport. The hotel does offer travel packages but I can not comment on those, as we did not use that service. They have some amazing hotels located throughout the world. We are very interested in traveling to their location in Brazil someday, and possibly Africa.
I usually try to list any downsides of places we have stayed, but I can’t think of any that we encountered. I highly recommend staying here if you are traveling to Cusco. As always, wishing you happy travels and fantastic adventures in this thing called life.
