We only had one day to see Sedona, we could have stayed a month! Our goal was to hike to all four vortices (energy centers) in Sedona in one day. Possible, yes; exhausting, yes; worth it, yes!
Here is a quick peak of our schedule for the day. I will post additional pages for each hike, with pictures and important details. We did the hardest hike first and ended with the easiest. It’s a good idea to follow in the same order that we did, as you will be fresh when you start and hopefully will be starting at a cooler time of day. Also, Airport Mesa is an excellent place to watch the sunset, and is the easiest hike if you are still wandering around at dusk.
Sunday
Drive to Coffee Pot Restaurant – 2050 AZ-89A, Sedona – 6am-2 – 1 hour 55 mins (food was ok)
Drive to Cathedral Rock Trailhead – 89A (east) to 179 (right) to Back O Beyond Rd (right) follow to end – 13 mins – hike to top 1.5 mi round trip – trail follow cairns –
Drive to Bell Rock Trail – 7 mins – 5 mile loop or take the trail to the left to Bell Rock Trail to climb (We climbed)
Drive to Cowboy Club Grille and Spirits – 241 Arizona 89A – 13 mins (Yummy food and drinks! Cactus fries and rattlesnake sausage for the adventurous.)
Wander through downtown Sedona (only did this for a short while, we decided we’d rather spend our very limited time hiking)
Drive to Boynton Canyon Vista Trail – 18 mins from restaurant – 89A southwest to Dry Creek Rd (right) to Boynton Canyon Rd (right) Boynton Canyon – Trail Head on right
Drive to Airport Mesa – 15 mins – Airport Rd – 3.5 mi loop – flat, good views- mini mesa is to the left of the loop trail (vortex by mini mesa) Separate parking at top for sunset, watch sunset 5:15
Drive back to hotel – 1 hour 54 mins
Even if you think ‘energy centers’ are silliness, I still highly recommend all four of these hikes. The scenery is stunning, although you probably can not go wrong with any hike in Sedona. You can go ‘wrong’ with your timing. Weekends are definitely more crowded, and the crowds can really take away from soaking in all the beauty and energy of the area during high season. If at all possible, try to time your visit during off season. Not only will you have less crowds, but you will also have less heat. An important benefit if you are trying to do some strenuous trails. As always, wishing you happy travels and fantastic adventures in this thing called life.

I got a download about live retreats in Sedona when I was at the Bell Rock last November. I’m so grateful to know the truth & be free.
Everywhere you look on the trails in Sedona inspires awe! I’m glad that you had such a wonderful experience there.
