Visiting Opaeka’a Falls and the Wailua River Overlook in Kauai

One of the easiest waterfalls to visit in Kauai are the Opaeka’a Falls.

A trio of falls that drop 151 feet to a pool below are definitely worth taking a drive to gaze upon. There is a decent size parking lot, a large viewing area and restrooms.

Most people only stay a few minutes to appreciate the falls, so if the lot is full, just be patient. There are also some picnic tables and a grassy area if you want to spend additional time here.

If you follow the sidewalk past the waterfalls to the crosswalk and cross the street, you will come to the Wailua River Overlook. There is a trail that leads down to the valley that begins here. The river is very popular with kayakers. Parts of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park and Outbreak were filmed down in the valley.

After we had our fill of the beautiful views, we headed off to the Kuilau Ridge Trailhead  for what ended up being a very muddy and slippery hike. As always, wishing you happy travels and fantastic adventures in this thing called life.
