The Spouting Horn blowhole is located near the end of Lawai Road at Spouting Horn Park. It is directly south of the McBryde Botanical Garden.
The blowhole is created by water rushing into an underwater lava tube and escaping in an explosive burst through an opening in the rock.
The most spectacular displays are at high tide, when the water can shoot up to 50 feet in the air.
Even if you can’t get there at high tide, which we couldn’t, it is still worth a quick stop.
We actually went twice because the first time was a little crowded and I was trying to capture the sound of the water without people talking in the background. I would have been successful on our second trip if my husband would have been able to keep quiet.
Things to know before you go:
- Parking is free and the lot is pretty big.
- There are bathrooms, picnic tables and roosters!
- There is no swimming here.
- The blowhole lookout is located above the blowhole behind a fence.
- You cannot go down near the blowhole.
Each time we went we stayed for approximately 10 minutes. It’s quite a mesmerizing site. Our next adventure was a doors off, private helicopter ride over Waimea Canyon and the Napili Coast. As always, wishing you happy travels and fantastic adventures in this thing called life.
